FAQ
Is spray tanning safe?
Yes. Sunless tanning is a safe and proven method for obtaining a tan. The active ingredient, DHA, is derived from sugar beets and is FDA-approved external use for sunless tanning. As with any personal product, sensitivity can occur, but it is very rare.
Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?
No, an airbrush spray tan does not protect you from the sun. It is recommended that you use sunscreen when out in the sun.
How do I prep for my spray tan?
Exfoliate: Exfoliate at least 4 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth surface for even tanning.
Shave: Shave at least 12 hours before your appointment to prevent streaks caused by shaving product residue.
Shower: Shower at least 4 hours before your appointment, but be sure your skin is clean, dry, and free from any products.
Avoid: Avoid wearing deodorant, makeup, perfume, and moisturizers on the day of your tan, as these can interfere with the tanning solution.
Wear: Wear loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing to your appointment and after the session.
What do I do after my spray tan?
Wait to Shower: Avoid showering for at least 4 hours after your spray tan, and don't wait more than 24 hours to shower.
Moisturize: Moisturize daily with an oil-free lotion to extend the life of your tan.
Avoid: Avoid activities that cause sweating or excessive moisture for at least 4-8 hours after your tan.
How do I keep my tan lasting as long as possible?
How far in advance should I schedule my spray tan before an competition or show?
The best time to get spray tanned before any event is 2-3 days prior.
How soon after my spray tanning session can I work out?
Please wait 16 - 24 hours and we recommend additionally rinsing off prior to working out. This will wash away any remaining bronzer – which is the cosmetic portion of your spray tan.
How long will my spray tan last?
The length of your spray tan depends on the maintenance afterwards. Most people notice their tan beginning to fade after about 4-7 days. Moisturizing and staying hydrated are two important factors to support the length of your tan.
Will jacuzzis, pools, or saunas remove my tan?
Yes, it will remove majority of the tan and/or lighten it. Seawater, chlorine, and hot tubs can accelerate the fading of the tan. I recommend wearing waterproof sunscreen to help repel the water.
What if I forget to shave before my tan?
Don’t worry if you forget to shave before your spray tan—it’s not a major issue. Shaving after your tan can cause some color loss, but waiting 48 hours post-tan helps minimize this effect. The first 24 hours are the most crucial—shaving during this time will remove the most color, so try to avoid it if possible. For the best results, give it at least 48 hours before shaving.
Pro tip: Use a new razor and apply hair conditioner instead of shaving cream to help preserve your tan longer.
